Flagship Friday: Steamworks’ Flagship IPA

Last fall, a beer emerged and shook things up in the West Coast beer scene. It won first place in the North American IPA category as well as Best in Show at the 2016 BC Beer Awards. By now, everyone should have a 6-pack of it on their go to beer rotation. You obviously already know what i’m talking about: Steamworks‘ Flagship IPA.

This Northeast style IPA is loaded with Mosaic, Galaxy, and Citra hops packing it full of tropical fruit juiciness in both it’s aroma and flavour. It tastes of citrus, grapefruit pith, passion fruit, and subtle hints of pine. It pours hazy and looks a lot like orange juice. It is incredibly well balanced with an amicable bitter finish, reminiscent of a West Coast IPA.

When it first entered the craft beer scene, it caused me to mumble a few curse words as I enjoyed each sip. Nearly 5 months later, it’s still causing me to get excited. I don’t often purchase 6 packs, hell, I rarely purchase 4 packs, but this beer is an exception to the rule.

It’s currently available in 330ml 6 pack bottles and tall cans (inside the Steamworks mash-up 8 pack). It’s also available on tap at the brewery and brewpub as well as various establishments across the lower mainland.

Flagship IPA is consistently good and is often my go to selection if I see it on tap around the city. It’s an approachable beer that will leave your palate satisfied.

Prost!

  1. Yeah they hit it out of the park with this one. From my understanding the brew team had actually never had this style of beer either when they brewed it and did it all by research.
